The Computer-Aided Diagnosis (CAD) & Knowledge Solutions Group, Siemens Medical Solutions, USA , is building up a world-class R&D team with researchers in machine learning, probabilistic inference, natural language processing and bioinformatics.  We have hired several scientists and are looking to continue to grow with multiple immediate and ongoing open positions for Research Scientists (senior and entry level).

 

We are looking for outstanding candidates with the ability to solve challenging problems in the medical domain while continuing to publish in leading journals and conferences. Medical background (courses, publications, product-research) would be an advantage but not essential. In this position, you will conduct research on early stage cancer diagnosis and personalized therapy selection, with the aim of developing radically new types of products.

 

Ideal candidates will have a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Biomedical Informatics, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science (with significant research and course work in Bioinformatics). Candidates graduating with a Ph.D., in 2008 are also encouraged to apply. Candidates must have a strong publication record at the top bioinformatics conferences and journals such as RECOMB, ISMB, PSB, JCB, Bioinformatics, etc. Candidates must possess good communication skills and a proven record in research, innovative thinking, real world problem solving, and fast prototyping.

 

Primary areas of interest include:

a)      Early stage cancer diagnosis using gene/protein expression and other new types of high-throughput genomic data

b)      Combining all available sources of information (lab records, genomic data, textual doctors’ notes, billing records, etc) to predict patient outcomes for various types of treatments. Prediction of optimal treatments on an individual basis.

c)      Additional areas of interest include text mining, feature extraction, predictive modeling, and mining large databases. 

 

Siemens Medical Solutions is located in Malvern , PA. Malvern lies within the Main Line area of the Philadelphia suburbs, with downtown Philly less than an hour's drive away.
