In this position, you will conduct leading-edge research in reasoning from incomplete, structured, semi-structured, and unstructured medical patient data, classification of patients/diseases, as well as machine learning for automatic information extraction from large amounts of numeric, imaging, text, and symbolic data, combine imaging, clinical, and textual information, and other challenging problems.

Candidates must have significant research background in probabilistic inference, machine learning and/or natural language processing with publications in leading conferences / journals.

Note: You must have a Ph.D., or be graduating soon with a Ph.D., in 2007.

Ideal candidates will have a Ph.D. in CS/EE/Statistics/Applied Math or an engineering discipline with an inter-disciplinary background in machine learning, NLP, probabilistic reasoning, and/or statistics, with a proven record in research, innovative thinking, real world problem solving, and fast prototyping.

Primary areas of interest include:

a)      All areas of probabilistic inference, Bayesian methods, temporal reasoning & inference, probabilistic graphical models (e.g., Bayes Nets), decision-making under uncertainty, and statistical learning.

b)      Classification methods from machine learning and statistics.

c)      NLP: information extraction, question answering, information retrieval, reference resolution, statistical parsing, multi-lingual processing etc.

d)      Additional areas of interest include text mining, feature extraction, predictive modeling, and mining large databases.
